how handmade tiles and tableware make your interior unique
Ceramics are perhaps the most human material you use in your interior. It consists of earth, water, and fire, and in the hands of experienced ceramicists, these are shaped into objects you use every day. Think of cups, bowls, tiles, and vases for your flowers, for example. Industrial ceramics are primarily functional, but handmade ceramics truly tell a story. A story about the creator's idea, the production process, and the time that goes into it.
In the Draumr community, we collaborate with ceramicists who consciously choose craftsmanship, small editions, and visible hand marks. Ceramics that aren't perfect, but do tell an honest story.
Handmade ceramics never get old.
If your interior is filled with clean lines and smooth surfaces, handmade ceramics bring softness and depth. No two pieces are exactly alike. The rim of one cup is slightly thicker than the rim of another. The glaze subtly flows, and a tile catches the light slightly differently than expected. It's precisely these small variations that ensure ceramics remain captivating—day after day. Handmade ceramics feel pleasant and warm. Ceramic cups, vases, and tiles, for example, age beautifully instead of wearing out. Moreover, ceramic items fit beautifully into both modern and timeless interiors.
From clay to cup: Sarah Michaels
For Sarah Michaels, everything begins at the potter's wheel. Sarah carefully shapes cups, bowls, teapots, and vases that exude humor. Her work is characterized by soft shapes, cheerful colors, and a subtle sense of humor.
As Sarah herself puts it, she creates pieces "to let you live with a smile on your face," and that is palpable in her work. Each piece is slowly constructed, dried, glazed, and fired. No rush, no mass production, just a deep focus.

Her tableware invites daily use. Not to be hidden away in a cupboard, but to become part of your rituals: coffee in the morning, tea in the evening, flowers on the table. The humorous approach to her pieces will always make you look at them with a smile.
The raw beauty of kurinuki: Sepideh Jahanpanah
While turning is all about symmetry and repetition, Sepideh Jahanpanah chooses a contrasting technique: the centuries-old Japanese technique of kurinuki. In this technique, an object is carved and hollowed out from a solid block of clay. The result is powerful, earthy, and almost sculptural. The traces of the carving remain visible. Each cup or object is therefore unique; it is literally impossible to replicate.
The cheerful Sepideh uses various types of clay, each with its own characteristics. By combining this clay with clay and sand from her own neighborhood in The Hague and finishing it with beautiful glazes, the items become unique not only because of the kurinuki but also because of the local clays.

This technique emphasizes the origins of ceramics: raw earth shaped by hand. Perfect for those who want to create space for character and contrast in their interior. To learn more about kurinuki, click here.
From Waste to Tile: Agné Kučerenkaitė
This award-winning designer works with raw materials and waste to create the most beautiful tiles. Agné specializes in developing techniques to transform secondary raw materials and waste into valuable products by seeking out and utilizing the interplay between design, society, industry, and the environment. This process involves in-depth research and analysis, extensive experiments, and practical exercises.

As a result, Agnė founded the brand "Ignorance-is-Bliss." A brand based on her research that enables the reuse of industrial waste and secondary materials into high-quality tiles for both interior and exterior use. In this way, we give waste and the built environment a new identity, with empathy for the health of the planet. Something that fits perfectly with Draumr's story.
Ceramics as part of your interior
With these three different ceramicists, Draumr offers a wide range of handmade ceramics in its collection. These handmade ceramics don't have to be purely decorative to make an impact. On the contrary: meaning is created through use and storytelling. Ceramics connect functionality with art without becoming unattainable.
Conscious choices, every day
By choosing handmade ceramics, you're not just choosing an object, but a way of living. Less stuff, more attention. Less perfection, more character. At Draumr, we believe that these choices are precisely what make an interior personal and lasting.
