The Weavers

Weaving for Draumr is not a feat of stamina. It is an act of listening as exemplified by Studio Stege. Bianka Stege of Studio Stege works at her Swedish loom with traceable Dutch wool — Drents Heideschaap, Texelaar, Swifter — fibres with their own memory, their own opinion.

She doesn't impose a structure, she designs. She follows what the material is already trying to become. That loom works with gravity. Every beat of the weft is a negotiation — between body, thread, and eight. You learn to read the right tension through your hands before you can name what you're feeling. That knowledge lives in the body, in your heart, not the head.

The craft's heart lies in pattern complexity

The craft's heart lies in pattern complexity, a challenge mirrored in the work of Veronica Pock. Every centimetre of thread will have passed through Veronica’s hands during the weaving process. Beginning with an original, usually visual, source of inspiration, a memory, a landscape, a reaction to the elements, patterns for weaving are designed and materials are selected.

The artistic interpretation via the loom reflects the colours, textures and structures of the original source of inspiration. Each woven piece is unique and conveys an emotional reaction. Ultimately, this is a vocation of cultural stewardship and the "intelligence of the hands. "

The difficulty of the pattern stands as a testament to the maker's expertise, bridging ancient utility with contemporary elegance. Every piece becomes a living narrative of patience, ensuring the finished textile carries the unmistakable, enduring mark of the handmade.
